Dear Judah and my future grandchildren,
As you get older you will start to see that the world is increasingly not the way it is supposed to be. I pray that you are starting to understand that it is because of sin that the world is this way. I pray that you understand that Jesus is the only solution to it. Man’s attempts merely shuffle around the corruption and misery. That brings me to why I wrote this entry. When you start to see just how bad the world is you will begin to wonder what you should do or can you do anything. You may even be at a total loss for how God wants you to respond. You will want to desperately make things better but have no idea how to because the world is so messed up. Be careful in those moments not to get caught up in the way the world thinks. It is easy to be swept away in injustice and anger. Those are ever present and will be until Jesus comes back.
It is easy in those times to take our eyes of Jesus and look at the world around us. This is not much different than Peter taking his eyes off of Jesus while walking on the water. More than anything Jesus wants us to have our attention on Him. That is the point of Ps 46. The most famous part of that Ps is verse 10.
“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
When the world around you is falling apart, focus your attention on God. Focus on all the attributes of Him. He is good, loving, all powerful, holy, righteous, merciful, just and many other good things. He will not let His children suffer endlessly. There is nothing that can keep God from fulfilling the promised blessing to His children. He has said it. He will do it.
When life gets hard, just trust Jesus.
Never forget that,
Grandpa
