Answered Prayer through a Guitar

My son Henry and I usually meet about every two weeks just to process life. Since he lives in town we usually meet at a cafe. Well it had been a few weeks since we had met so he called me last night and asked to meet this morning. We had a great breakfast and at the end he told me that he was really excited about something and wanted to share. Someone had given him a 12 string guitar a few days ago. He didn’t have a use for it so he decided he wanted to give it to me, after he fixes it up. When he told me, I started to tear up because he didn’t know the back story, which I promptly told him.

In college I use to lead worship at my fraternity bible study. Frankly, I wasn’t very good but I loved doing it. One of my good friends arranged for a bunch of our friends to pitch in to buy me a 12 string guitar without me knowing about it. So I come to lead worship one night. I open my case to get the guitar and my normal 6 string Yamaha is not there. I see a really nice Takamini 12 string. I close the case thinking I had picked up the wrong case. My friends just laughed and then told me they bought it for me. I was moved to grateful tears.

A few years later I loaned that guitar to another friend from my home town. Big mistake. The guitar was stolen from his house, at least that is what he told me. I felt like and idiot for loaning it to him and have missed it ever since. Ever couple of years I will lay that regret before God. Well about a month ago I was again pouring out my regret about losing that guitar to God and asking Him if there was someway He could replace it for me.

Then my son, who had never heard my story about the 12 string, offers me a 12 string that had been given to him. Mind you, this son is a music/guitar teacher. He could use that guitar. But he felt led and was excited to give it to me. So I set tearing up in a cafe this morning about a guitar. But more importantly, I was able to share with my son, how God used him to answer a prayer that he didn’t even know about. I couldn’t pay enough money to have my son’s faith built like that. He just laughed when I told him the story.

God is good.
