Praying Through the 10 Commandments: No Other God

And God spoke all these words:

“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

“You shall have no other gods before me.”

Lord,

Help me to realize more every day that you indeed are the only God. There is no other like you, complete in wisdom and power. Full of love and mercy. Always executing justice. You always do right, because from you comes right. All you do is very good, because good comes from you.

Your love for your children is manifest every moment in every way. You are patient and kind. Your mercies are new every morning. Your goodness draws me to you every day. Your goodness sustains me and nourishes the hope in my heart.

Every other ‘god’ is no god at all. They have no power. They are not good. They are not just. They have no mercy. They only have hate. They hate what is good. They hate You!

Yet you are patient with them, giving them every opportunity to repent, turn from their ways, trust you and be healed. Yet they refuse. They seek to heal themselves. Blind, they lead themselves and others into the pit. You, Lord, will not endure their rejection forever. At the time You have appointed they will acknowledge You as God, yet not in pleasure but as objects of your wrath, justly displayed in them.

But your objects of your grace, your children, will praise You in everlasting joy. They will be transformed by your Spirit and be made perfect. They will see you as you are.

Lord, in the here and now, before I go to you, I struggle every day seeing and believing the fullness of your deity. Just as you brought Israel out of human slavery, you have brought me out of my slavery to sin through the cross. Help me and rend the sin from my heart that keeps me from seeing you as you are. Shine your face on me, that I may know and worship you. Let me rest in your presence and then I will overflow with praise before you and before men.

To know You and see that You really are God, is to be what I was always designed to be. Help me Jesus, have no other Gods before you. Then my joy will be complete.
